In science class we dissected a frog. The first thing we did was place the frog in the dissection pan. Then we used the scissors to cut the abdominal muscles away from the body cavity. Next,we made horizontal cuts near the arms and legs.  We then lifted the flaps of the body wall and pinned them back.  We named all the organs and then removed them.  Some of the organs were: fat bodies-spaghetti shaped structures that are bright orange or yellow; peritoneum-a spiderweb like membrane that covers many of the organs; liver-brown colored with three lobes, it is the largest structure of the body cavity; heart-a triangular structure that can be found at the top of the liver;lungs-located underneath the heart and liver; gall bladder-small green sac under the liver; stomach-curves underneath the liver; small intestine-leads from the stomach; large intestine-located if you follow the small intestine down, also known as cloaca; spleen-a red spherical object that hold the blood; esophagus-it is at the top of the stomach.  This experience has unlocked so much knowledge for me. It has taught me how to dissect a frog and what the frog's body parts are. I really really enjoyed this lab I hope we could do things more like this in the future.

The Stomach Churns Lab

Today in Science class we did an experiment with an ingredient called hydrochloric acid. First, we have all the tools/ingredients used in the experiment. These tools and ingredients are: test tube rack, pepsin, water, 4 strips of blue litmus paper, cubes of boiled egg white, 10-mL plastic graduated cylinder, 4 test tubes with stoppers, marking pencil, dilute hydrochloric acid and finally plastic stirrers. Then we put the egg white cubes into the test tubes. After that we put 10 mL of the enzyme pepsin in test tube A. Then we added 5mL of pepsin to test tube B. Next we added 10 mL of hydrochloric acid to test tube C. Then finally to test tube D we added 5 mL of pepsin and we added 5 mL of hydrochloric acid. Then we took 4 strips of the litmus paper after that we dipped a clean plastic stirrer into each test tube and we had to put each liquid on the paper which made the paper turn different colors. Tomorrow we will do more but for now that's all.

Chicken Wing Dissection

In science class we dissected a chicken wing. We saw epithelial tissue, muscle tissue, nerve tissue and connective tissue. First, we felt the chicken's skin it felt a bit bumpy and it was a yellowish color, that was attached to muscle tissue. Next, we observed the muscle tissue. As we were pulling the muscle the wing was moving back and forth. We saw the nerve tissue looking as a red line in the muscle it looked kind of like a red vain. The epithelial tissue would be the skin on the chicken wing. The connective tissue we discussed about bones and about how inside the bones there is marrow and the cartilage. This experiment has taught me about different types of tissue it was also very fun and I would definitely want to do it again

Corn starch and Iodine experiment

Today we did an experiment with a baggy, corn starch, water and iodine. First, we filled the baggy with one spoonful of corn starch. Next we added water to the baggy with the corn starch in it, this caused the water to have a milky color. Then we submerged the baggy into water that had iodine in it. After we left it in there for fifteen minutes the water in the baggy started to look a yellowish brown. This experiment has taught me how powerful some chemicals can be.
